Mobile Game Development in JavaScript (App Lab)

10 Lessons

Back

Welcome to this really entertaining course titled “Mobile Game Development in JavaScript”.  You will have the opportunity to walk you through the world of JavaScript and make Mobile apps through App Lab, an online studio for developing JavaScript programs.

App Lab is a block-based programming language, developed by code.org.  This is similar conceptually to Scratch, which most of you are familiar with already, where you can build different kinds of apps by dragging and dropping blocks.  However, with App Lab, one can switch back and forth to the actual code and the visual blocks.  Thus, this acts as a bridge to more serious programming.  You will learn how to use these blocks to build games that you can play on your phone!

This course is split into 10 lessons. Each lesson has multiple topics enabling you to create programs from the get go! At the end of each lesson, you will have to take an assessment. You will receive badges for finishing the lessons and quizzes. Finally, after finishing the entire course, you will be able to print your certificate from the achievements page!

To be able to practice the examples and do more hands-on programming, please have App Lab open while you take the course. You can do so by opening a new tab, and then visiting code.org/applab. There, you can click “Make an App” to get started.  If it is your first time using App Lab, you’ll be asked to create an account. During the account creation process, please ask for permission and help from your parent or teacher.
